Monday (Emily)

On Monday we listened to many presentations prepared by our teachers about the different languages and accents of Austria, Slovakia, France and Spain. We also had to answer some questions about the input in groups and we did some Vocabulary activities. Afterwards we had lunch at the school canteen. It was interesting to get to know the different influences on certain languages. In the afternoon we went to the city center to explore Michalovce and saw some important buildings of this town. The groups were mixed containing a student from each country. In the evening we had dinner and danced at the school disco organized by the Slovakian teachers. The disco ended at 9:30 and then we walked home with our host sisters and brothers.

Tuesday (Enya)

On Tuesday we visited the Andy Warhol museum. Andy Warhol is known for introducing pop art. As his parents were born in Slovakia, he is very popular among the inhabitants here. That's why they dedicated a gallery to him. His famous drawings include the four shaded Marilyn Monroe and his endless soup posters. After the tour in the museum we participated in a T-shirt workshop. We went outside to spray some T-shirts with paint and took many group photos. The rest of the afternoon we visited an important castle near Humenne which was inhabited by the Andressi family for several centuries. Afterwards we walked to a heritage site to see how Slovakian people lived in former times. We came back to Michalovce at around 4 and enjoyed a free evening with our new friends and host families.

Wednesday ( Kathi )

On Wednesday we first watched and listened to presentations about endangered animals in Austria, France, Spain and Slovakia.
The presentations were really interesting and easy to follow. Furthermore we were filmed by a camera team and some of us gave interviews.
After a big lunch break we attended the performance of a Slovakian folklore dancing group in the canteen of the school. They were nicely dressed in traditional clothes and managed to catch our attention. They also taught us some steps after their performance. It was really funny and cool to dance a typical Slovakian dance.
After this active afternoon we enjoyed our free time in a cafeteria and the local shopping center.

Thursday (Natalie)

On Thursday we went to Košice by bus. There we had a Spanish guide who showed us around the city center and explained the most interesting sights of Košice to us. In this city there is the biggest cathedral of Slovakia which is dedicated to St. Elizabeth. Moreover in this church there's a grave for a person, who's not dead yet. In Košice there were many parks and a charming pedestrian area, too. After this tour through the old part of the town we went to the modern 'steel park'. It's an exhibition and museum about steel, because Slovakia and especially Kosice is well-known for its steel production. There were different stations and spots where we could do experiments, so we tried many things. In the afternoon we had free time and went to a shopping center near the old city. At 4.30 we went back to Michalovce.
